Michael Lopez serves as Executive Vice President to USGI and has over 10 years of experience supporting and managing small to large scale government contracts. Michael earned his undergraduate Civil Engineering degree from the University of New Mexico (UNM). Michael will also be finishing UNM Anderson School of Business’ Executive MBA in 2008. Michael began his career supporting then managing a staff for a small, government business that administered over 375 accounts relative to supporting 200 employees and 8 government contracts with 6 different agencies in 16 different states. Later, Michael began working for big business, which began his career in project management, gaining experience supporting a myriad of programs for various 3 letter agencies (i.e. D.O.E., D.O.D., F.B.I., D.O.J., etc…). His support for big business included NNSA’s deployment of 1st Responders to Ground Zero during 9-11.
Michael then began consulting directly to NNSA, serving as the Senior Project Controls Manager for the Second Line of Defense (SLD). SLD is multi-billion dollar project that seeks the non-proliferation of nuclear material worldwide. Michael was responsible for the creation of a performance based measuring tool that focuses on the completion of milestones rather than the tracking of costs. In addition, Michael developed the following supportive systems to this tool that included: the database, web and file servers, MS Schedules, internal cost analysis tools and performance measurement techniques. Tasks also included maintaining schedules, updating the server and its backups, ensuring user connectivity, WBS creation and maintenance, performance tracking, trend analysis, estimating forecasts and projections and change control.
Michael has recently returned to the Southwest supporting local business with small to large scale contracts that include Sandia National Labs, Los Alamos National Labs, Idaho National Laboratory, Tonopah Test Site, State of New Mexico, State of Nevada, and others.
